Where the Work Begins

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming—we’re here to make it easier.
We know starting therapy can come with a lot of questions—whether you’re new to the process or returning after some time. These FAQs are here to provide clear, reassuring answers so you can move forward with confidence and ease.
If you are in an immediate crisis, please go to the nearest ER to be assessed for your safety. Once you are safe, please email or leave a voicemail so that we can get you scheduled for the next available appointment.
Your first therapy session is about getting to know you—your concerns, goals, and what brought you to therapy. It’s a relaxed, judgment-free space to start building trust.
Most therapy sessions typically last about 50 minutes to an hour, depending on the therapist’s approach and your specific needs. Some formats, or intensive sessions, might be longer.
The overall duration of therapy varies greatly from person to person. Some individuals benefit from short-term therapy (6–12 sessions) focused on specific issues, while others engage in long-term therapy to explore deeper patterns or ongoing challenges. Your goals, progress, and the type of therapy will influence how long you stay in treatment.
